About The Israeli Society of Complementary Medicine

The Israeli Society for Complementary Medicine and its members

The Israeli Society for Complementary Medicine was established in 2002 within the framework of the Israel Medical Association. The Society numbers 150 members, most of whom are medical doctors, health professionals and research scientists who share an interest in complementary and integrative medicine in the following fields: nursing, pharmacology, psychology, sociology and social work, jurisprudence, ethics, the history of medicine, traditional medicine, and others.

The goals of The Israeli Society for Complementary Medicine

The Society aims to promote an integrative approach to health within the framework of the Israeli health system, the Israel Medical Association, the academic community and the conventional and complementary educational system in the country.

Activities and Achievements of The Israeli Society for Complementary Medicine

The promotion of an integrative approach in health care in Israel:
• Representation of the Society at the Ministerial committee for the regulation of complementary medicine in Israel.
• Conferences and workshops, in conjunction with other member societies and organizations of the Israel Medical Association
• Publication of recommendations and guidelines in conjunction with the other member societies and organizations of the Israel Medical Association
• Publication of recommendations and guidelines for pain management in people with cancer
• Dialogue with the heads of the complementary medicine clinics of the 4 health maintenance organizations (HMO's), which includes cooperative ventures and scientific conferences.
• Dialogue with the professional societies and therapists who are involved in complementary medicine, as well as the umbrella organization of the complementary medicine therapists in Israel.
• Creating work groups crystallized according to clinical areas of expertise (family medicine, pediatrics, oncology, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, pain, mental health and others), defined areas of interest (such as research, education, legislation and regulation, ethics), and according to the areas of complementary medicine.
